Preparing Your Hot Tub for the Cold Weather

September 12, 2007

Who doesn't love relaxing in his/her hot tub on a cool/cold
evening? Now is the time to get the tub ready for cool/cold
weather use. Hot tubs should be drained and cleaned well at
least twice a year.

Turn of the power and drain. Once the tub is drained, the
tub should be wiped down with non-abrasive cleaner and then
rinsed well. Don't forget to clean the filters. Whether you
chose a soak, spray or good hosing out, it is important to
clean them well. Not sure if you should replace them? Feel
the power coming out of the jets. Does the power greatly
increase when you remove the filters? If so, then new
filters should be considered.

Ok, now the tub is drained, wiped down, and the filters are
clean. It is time to refill the tub. Don't forget to close
the drain! Once the tub is refilled you will need to
balance the water. If you are on a well, you may want to
consider a product that causes the metals in the water to
collect in the filter. Make sure your pH, alkalinity and
Calcium are all within the proper range. Not only will it
make the water more comfortable, but it will help the
maintenance chemicals work properly.

Your tub is now ready to enjoy throughout the winter.
